One of you wants to talk now. The other has had enough. Or you’ve stopped arguing, but you’re not really talking either.
Sometimes it’s about what just happened. Sometimes you’re also arguing about all the other times it happened.
I want to hear from both of you.
You may have very different accounts of the same evening. I want to understand those differences, including what each of you thought the other person meant.
We’ll talk about what you each want from therapy. I won’t assume it’s the same thing.
Hearing both people doesn’t mean treating everything as equally shared responsibility. We also need to know whether each of you can speak freely and whether meeting together is the right place to start.
How I work.
I draw on Gottman Method couples therapy, attachment-focused work, and emotion-focused approaches. We may work on how you talk to each other. We’ll also look at what makes certain conversations so difficult in the first place.
